RURALCREA 2026 Artist Residency Open Call
Nectar is pleased to announce the 2nd edition of its RUЯALCREA artistic residency programme, designed to support artistic practices engaged with territory, community, and rural contexts.
The program offers artists dedicated time and space to develop their work within a unique natural environment, encouraging projects that engage with the landscape, memory, local communities, and the social and environmental realities of the territory. Through public activities and opportunities for exchange with the local community,
RUЯALCREA advocates for rural contexts as active spaces for contemporary artistic creation, cultural exchange, and experimentation. The residency will take place at Nectar's facilities, near La Nou de Gaià (Tarragonès, Catalonia), using this setting as a starting point for establishing meaningful connections with the territory, its inhabitants, and its cultural context.

📍 About the 2026 Residency 📍
- Four artists will be selected: two through the open call and two by direct invitation from the organisation.
- All four selected projects will receive a 100% funded residency.
- The residency will take place during Autumn 2026.
- Each residency will last approximately one week (dates to be agreed individually).
- The residency will be hosted at Nectar's facilities in Tarragonès (Tarragona, Spain).
- Each artist will receive €500 in artist fees. This amount is intended to cover materials, meals, and other expenses related to the residency.
The Residency
Accommodation
Selected artists will stay at Nectar's facilities in a private studio with an en-suite bathroom. Residents will also have access to an outdoor kitchen for the exclusive use of resident artists.
Artists Fees
Each artist (or collective of 2) will receive €500 in artist fees. This amount is intended to cover residency-related expenses, including production materials, meals, and other costs associated with the development of the project.
Workspaces
The residency offers spacious and versatile indoor and outdoor workspaces, primarily intended for research, creative development and experimentation. The surrounding natural environment forms an integral part of the working space, expanding the possibilities for each project. If your proposal requires specific technical equipment or infrastructure, we recommend contacting us before submitting your application.

Pick-up service from the nearest train station, when required.

Terms and conditions
The residency is open to artists, creatives, and researchers working in the fields of visual and performing arts, both local and international.
Applications are open to individual participants or projects developed by a maximum of two people

To apply, candidates must submit a PDF document (up to 10 MB) with the following information using the online application form (documents in Catalan, Spanish, or English are accepted):
- Project Proposal*
- Short bio/CV
- Portfolio
- Project description and current stage of development.
- Residency objectives.
- A provisional work schedule.
- A proposal for a public activity to be shared with the local community.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- This open call is intended for projects that are already in an advanced stage of development or for an existing body of work, allowing artists to use the residency period to deepen their creative process, produce, refine, share, or present the outcomes of their work.
- As part of the residency, all selected artists are required to organise a public activity open to the local community. This may take different forms, such as a workshop, artist talk, presentation, exhibition, performance, participatory action, or another suitable format, and should be briefly described in the application.
Grants
Nectar will award 4 full grants (100%) that include:
Confirmation of participation in the residency must be made within one week of the selection announcement.
- One week of residency.
- Accommodation in a private studio with an en-suite bathroom.
- Indoor and outdoor workspaces tailored to the needs of each project.
- Opportunities to connect with local and international cultural professionals.
- One public activity to be shared with the local community.
- Communication and promotion of the project through Nectar's communication channels.
- Pick-up service from the nearest train station, when required.
- Follow-up meetings and studio visits with the Nectar team.
- €500 in artist fees
Confirmation of participation in the residency must be made within one week of the selection announcement.
Loaction
The residency takes place at Nectar's facilities, located near La Nou de Gaià (Tarragonès, Catalonia), in a rural setting surrounded by nature and well connected to major cities: just over one hour from Barcelona, 25 minutes from Tarragona, and 10 km from the Mediterranean coast. This environment provides ideal conditions for focus, research, and artistic creation.
